If you’ve been following Wrong Reel for any length of time, you’re probably aware of my enduring obsession with the work of Brian De Palma. I recently wrote two essays covering his entire career De Palma: 50 Years of Filmmaking Part I and De Palma: 50 Years of Filmmaking Part II. For my money, he is one of the best filmmakers of the last half century and for the last few months, I have been eagerly awaiting the release of the new documentary De Palma from directors Noah Baumbach and Jake Paltrow, one that I was privileged to see last Fall at the New York Film Festival (my review). The documentary is absolutely phenomenal and today we were treated to the first official trailer. If you’re a fan of De Palma you’re going to love this movie and I’d like to think that it has a chance of winning over even those people who have devoted their lives to spitting on his work. I’ll never understand people who equate enjoying violence in film, literature, video games, etc. as an endorsement of violence against our fellow human beings but needless to say they are not fans of De Palma’s work. Luckily, there are enough of us fans out there to give the proper level of support to this project. De Palma opens in cinemas on June 10th but for now enjoy the trailer.
I am one of the Co-Hosts of Wrong Reel.
